Technology Grant Opportunities

The Academic Technology Advisory BoardÌýÌýis pleased to offer three technology grant opportunities to support teaching, research, and student learning at Boston College: the Academic Technology Innovation Grant (ATIG), the Technology Infrastructure Grant (TIG), and the Exploratory Technology Grant (ETG).

Each opportunity supports a different type of technology initiative. Applicants are encouraged to review the grant descriptions and eligibility requirements below to determine which opportunity best aligns with their proposed project.

Application Process

The Academic Technology Innovation Grant (ATIG) and Technology Infrastructure Grant (TIG) are available through a single application form. Applicants must select the specific grant for which they are applying within the form. Although the application process is shared, ATIG and TIG remain separate grant programs, each with its own purpose, eligibility requirements, and funding criteria.

The Exploratory Technology Grant (ETG) has a separate application form and must be submitted independently.

Applicants should review all three grant descriptions carefully before beginning the application process.

Ìý Ìý

Academic Technology Innovation Grant (ATIG)

The Academic Technology Innovation Grant supports projects that introduce new instructional and research technologies to Boston College or use technology in innovative ways to advance teaching and research.

Projects should aim to be self-sustaining and benefit a broad population of Boston College faculty and/or students. ATIG provides start-up funding, typically ranging from $5,000 to $40,000, although larger awards have occasionally been funded.

Projects that continue beyond the two-year grant period must secure localized funding support. Grant recipients must also agree to provide status reports as requested.

Eligibility

All full-time faculty members are eligible to apply, including:

  • Tenured faculty
  • Tenure-track faculty
  • Non-tenure-track faculty

Who should apply?

Faculty members proposing innovative technology initiatives that advance teaching or research, introduce new technological approaches, or have the potential to benefit a broad population of the Boston College community.

Technology Infrastructure Grant (TIG)

The Technology Infrastructure Grant supports operational technology needs that enhance teaching, student learning, and classroom experiences across Boston College’s schools and colleges when those needs cannot be met through regular funding channels.

Unlike ATIG, TIG may support essential technology needs that are not necessarily innovative but are important to a school’s continued success. Projects may include discrete technology purchases or exploratory pilot projects that allow schools to evaluate technology for potential broader implementation.

For exploratory or pilot projects, funding is limited to the initial pilot period. ATAB cannot provide additional funding beyond that period.

Awards may be made for up to $30,000. Preference is given to proposals that include matching funds, although a 50% match is not required.

Eligibility

Faculty members and Dean’s offices may apply. Faculty applicants must collaborate with their Dean’s office, particularly in determining the school’s financial contribution.

All proposals must explain how the project will contribute to teaching, student learning, and/or the classroom experience.

Application Requirements

  • Proposals must include:
  • Dean’s approval, including approval of matching funds, if applicable
  • Project description
  • Project budget
  • Product quote, if applicable

Who should apply?

Faculty members and Dean’s offices seeking funding for essential technology infrastructure, classroom technology, or pilot projects that address school-level teaching and student learning needs.

ATIG & TIG Application Process

Applicants must select either the Academic Technology Innovation Grant (ATIG) or the Technology Infrastructure Grant (TIG) within the shared application form. Applicants should choose the opportunity that most closely aligns with the purpose and goals of their proposed project and ensure that all applicable eligibility and proposal requirements are met.

Please review the individual grant descriptions before beginning the application.

Application Deadline: Nov 30, 2026

Exploratory Technology Grant (ETG)

The Exploratory Technology Grant encourages innovation and exploration of technological possibilities at Boston College. ETG funding may support a stand-alone activity or serve as the foundation for a larger Academic Technology Innovation Grant proposal.

ETGs provide funding of up to $3,000. During the summer, up to $1,000 may be used for a faculty stipend for work directly related to the project.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and award notifications are made within 30 days. Projects must be completed within four months, after which any unused funds will expire.

Eligibility

All full-time faculty members are eligible to apply, including tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure-track faculty.

Who should apply?

Faculty members interested in exploring a technological possibility, testing a new approach, or conducting a small-scale project that could serve as a stand-alone activity or inform a future Academic Technology Innovation Grant proposal.

Application Form

ETG requires a separate application and is not part of the shared ATIG/TIG application.ÌýApplications are accepted on a rolling basis.
